Sparkwing is the world’s first commercially available off-the-shelf solar array for small satellites. It is optimized for LEO missions requiring power levels between 100W and 2000W, and bus voltages of 36V or 50V. We offer more than twenty different panel dimensions, which can be configured into deployable wings with one, two or three panels per wing.

Our Product and Technology

The wing components

One, two or three panels, a central hold-down, single hinge per hingeline and high performance PVA.

Easy integration

The single hold-down and smart root hinge tolerances allow for easy integration: can be done entirely by you.

The Photo-Voltaic Assembly

Strings consisting of 19 or 26 cells in series (optimized for 36V or 50V at bus (EOL)). Custom layout on request.

The Hold-down system

Our own hold-down & release system ensures low-stack height, with commercial off-the-shelf actuator.

About us

Sparkwing is the outcome of a challenge we took on to create a off-the-shelf solar array solution for small satellites: to bring most value for money, offer short lead times and provide easy integration. By teaming up with expert suppliers from Europe, we have realized a product that fulfills small satellite power need.

Sparkwing is a product of Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands (Airbus DS NL). Our product has its foundation built on 40 years’ worth of experience providing satellites with power. Since 1979, more than 85 space missions have flown or are flying with Airbus DS NL’s solar arrays, all of which successfully deployed in space and perform as expected.

Our team: we have a 20 member team working on giving you a reliable solution, and ensuring your order to orbit process is easy and efficient.
